The chief deficiency I see in the skeptical movement is its polarization: Us vs. Them - the sense that we have a monopoly on the truth; that those other people who believe in all these stupid doctrines are morons; that if you`re sensible, you`ll listen to us; and if not, to hell with you. This is nonconstructive. It does not get our message across. It condemns us to permanent minority status.
What makes earth feel like Hell is our expectation that it should feel like Heaven.
The world isn`t run by the laws written on paper. It`s run by people. Some according to laws, others not. It depends on each individual how his world will be, how he makes it. And you also need a whole lot of luck, so that somebody else doesn`t make your life hell. And it ain`t as simple as they tell you in grade school. But it is good to have strong values and to maintain them. In marriage, in crime, in war, always and everywhere.
They say that in the second before our death, each of us understands the real reason for our existence, and out of that moment, Heaven or Hell is born. Hell is when we look back during that fraction of a second and know that we wasted an opportunity to dignify the miracle of life. Paradise is being able to say at that moment: "I made some mistakes, but I wasn`t a coward. I lived my life and did what I had to do."
I don`t like to commit myself about heaven and hell - you see, I have friends in both places.
I`m selfish, impatient, and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I`m out of control, and at times hard to handle. But if you can`t handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don`t deserve me at my best.
Ours is a world where people don`t know what they want and are willing to go through hell to get it.

Marriage. The beginning and the end are wonderful. But the middle part is hell.
