There are moments when I wish I could roll back the clock and take all the sadness away, but I have the feeling that if I did, the joy would be gone as well. So I take the memories as they come, accepting them all, letting them guide me whenever I can.

Nicholas Sparks

I've never understood why people consider youth a time of freedom and joy. It's probably because they have forgotten their own.

Margaret Atwood

If life in itself were a valuable possession and decidedly preferable to non-existence, the gate need not be occupied by such terrible guards as death and its terrors. But who would persevere in life as it is, if death were less frightful? And who could even so much as endure the thought of death, if life were a joy?

Arthur Schopenhauer

All things that live, endure for the same span;
The century-old tree, and the one-day beetle,
Grow conscious, joy and love, and pass away
When they have reached their own appointed aims.
Time does not move. `Tis only we who change.
A hundred years are but one brief day.

Imre Madách

The walls we build around us to keep sadness out also keeps out the joy.

Jim Rohn

Joy?
A little pearl of the ocean.
Perhaps
By the time I fish it up
I may break it.

Sándor Petőfi

We live in a society where people are uncomfortable with not knowing. Children aren`t taught to say "I don`t know," and honesty in this form is rarely modeled for them. They too often see adults avoiding questions and fabricating answers, out of either embarrassment or fear, and this comes at a price. When children are embarrassed by or afraid of the feeling of not knowing, they are preoccupied with escaping their discomfort, rather than being motivated to learn. This robs them of the joy of curiosity. Let`s celebrate the feelings of awe and wonder in our children, as the foundation for all learning. Let`s teach children to say "I don`t know" and help them understand the power behind it. Let`s talk to them about how it feels to not know something. And, finally, let`s be honest with children about the limits of our own knowledge.

Annaka Harris

Life speeds by and no matter how much joy there is, there is sadness.

Penn Jillette

I cannot even imagine where I would be today were it not for that handful of friends who have given me a heart full of joy. Let`s face it, friends make life a lot more fun.

Charles Rozell Swindoll

Friendship improves happiness and abates misery, by the doubling of our joy and the dividing of our grief.

Marcus Tullius Cicero

For happiness one needs security, but joy can spring like a flower even from the cliffs of despair.

Anne Morrow Lindbergh

We`re never so vulnerable than when we trust someone - but paradoxically, if we cannot trust, neither can we find love or joy.

Walter Anderson

The glory of science is, that it is freeing the soul, breaking the mental manacles, getting the brain out of bondage, giving courage to thought, filling the world with mercy, justice, and joy.

Robert G. Ingersoll
