Mothers - Quotes
Kids, this Mother`s Day, why don`t you give your mother what she really wants? A break from you!
It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often, it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends.
There`s a story behind everything. How a picture got on a wall. How a scar got on your face. Sometimes the stories are simple, and sometimes they are hard and heartbreaking. But behind all your stories is always your mother`s story, because hers is where yours begin.
Our present swarms with traces of our past. We are histories of ourselves, narratives. I am not this momentary mass of flesh reclined on the sofa typing the letter a on my laptop; I am my thoughts full of the traces of the phrases that I am writing; I am my mother`s caresses, and the serene kindness with which my father calmly guided me; I am my adolescent travels; I am what my reading has deposited in layers in my mind; I am my loves, my moments of despair, my friendships, what I`ve written, what I`ve heard; the faces engraved on my memory. I am, above all, the one who a minute ago made a cup of tea for himself. The one who a moment ago typed the word "memory" into his computer. The one who just composed the sentence that I am now completing. If all this disappeared, would I still exist? I am this long, ongoing novel. My life consists of it.
Mother's Day is a celebration of all those, parents or not, who nourish or cherish others and teach them the meaning of love. It's just that mothers are the most evident, most visible, most endearing teachers and that's why we honor them, remember them and their concrete examples of love.
Now that I am a mother, I understand what Mother's Day is about: it's about looking through our lives and recognizing the act of mothering everywhere we see it, and more than that, recognizing that when any of us mother - when we listen, nuture, nourish, protect - we're doing sacred work.
Traditionally, Mother's Day is about thanking and honoring mothers. But this nontraditional tribute is a fine opportunity to tell my son and my daughter that I love being their mother - I always have and I always will, I am thankful that I was able to have children and be part of the miracle of life.
All women become like their mothers. That is their tragedy. No man does. That`s his.
Some of the most memorable mother's day gifts are those gifts which are given, not because it is Mother's Day, but because it is a day when children want to share some new wonder or something special and exciting with you.
The best Mother's Day gift is just knowing that your children are happy and healthy.
One of the big reliefs for the atheist is not having to worry about what to hope, wish, and pray for. Did I want to pray for my mother`s suffering to end? Did I want to hope for her death? I didn`t have to worry about that. I could hope one day that she`d live longer so I could talk to her, and wish the next day that she would die and not have to suffer her paralysis and physical loss any longer. My wishing and hoping were inert; I could let them run wild. I could use them as pure solace.
A mother`s love is like a circle
It has no beginning, no ending
The father is always a Republican toward his son, and his mother`s always a Democrat.
